Description

In the heart of the hills of Castell’Arquato, the magic of Ortrugo Fizzante Genuis comes to life.

Each bunch, harvested and selected by hand, is the fruit of a year’s work in the vineyard. The bunches are placed in small crates and taken to the cellar where they are destemmed and pressed. With a soft pressing, we separate the skin from the free-run must, and we are ready for the most delicate phase.

Fermentation occurs like a whisper, slow and respectful, at a strictly controlled temperature, so that every aroma is expressed and remains in the wine.
When the residual sugar has now lowered, by cooling the wine, we stop the fermentation, to be able to restart it later and have a pleasantly sparkling Ortrugo.
The second fermentation follows the Charmat – Martinotti method, a patient wait that preserves the bouquet and gives a perlage of rare finesse.
Genuis is a clear example of a wine of the Territory’s tradition, which thanks to dedication and careful use of technology, has had the opportunity to express itself in terms unthinkable in the past.

In the sinuous hills of Castell’Arquato, where time seems to dance to the rhythm of nature, the Ortrugo vineyards find their home.
Ortrugo is a native vine of Piacenza, that is, its roots are lost in these lands since the dawn of time.
A grape born here and always grown on our hills, initially used only as a blending grape together with other varieties, but progressively rediscovered and valued in its purity.
And right here, in the Casa Benna area, the roots of this ancient vine sink into a soil that is extremely suited.
These lean and well-drained soils, witnesses of centuries of history, cradle the Ortrugo vines, giving them life and nourishment.
It is a silent but intense dialogue between the vine and the earth, a harmony of elements that blend together to give rise to a wine that is an authentic expression of this hidden corner of Emilia.
